Vertex Co., Ltd. (Representative Director and President: Akihide Tsuchiya) and Kumagai Gumi Co., Ltd. (Representative Director and President: Makoto Ueda) have jointly developed the "Slide Joint Wall Parapet," a precast wall parapet that can be used for specific expressway renewal work.
Precast wall parapets (hereafter referred to as PCa wall parapets) installed on decks used in specific renewal work must be integrated with the deck and PCa wall parapets, and with each other, to ensure that the structure can adequately withstand the large loads that would result from a vehicle collision. With conventional PCa wall parapets, special materials and tools were required to integrate them, and there was a lot of work to be done on-site, which was time-consuming and labor-intensive, which was an issue.
Therefore, Vertex Co., Ltd. and Kumagai Gumi Co., Ltd. aimed to develop a PCa wall parapet that was easy to work with, using only relatively inexpensive and common materials and reducing on-site work.
The "Slide Joint Wall Parapet" is a Florida-type (SB type) PCa wall parapet that uses loop-shaped reinforcing bars to join the deck and PCa wall parapet, and steel pipes to connect the PCa wall parapets together.
Its main features are as follows:
- Self-supporting L-shaped structure (Florida type SB)
- Steel pipe joints are used to connect PCa wall parapets
- Multiple (6) communication pipelines can be installed
- Flat structure on the front of PCa wall parapet
- Slide installation method
- Greatly improved workability and economic efficiency
In addition, we conducted the NEXCO Test Method 441-2019 to confirm the performance of joints, and the standards were met for all center collisions, joint collisions, and end collisions.
